About the Parish Museum
The Óbidos Parish Museum is in the restored Church of São João Baptista, said to have been built in 1309 by Queen Isabel. Next to the Porta da Vila, it is one of the most important buildings inside the castle walls.
The church supported the village’s leper community and later passed to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Óbidos, founded by another great queen linked to the village, Queen Leonor.

Restored with the support of the town council, it is one of the most symbolic buildings in Óbidos. It focuses on medium-length temporary exhibitions and on studying and sharing the church’s artistic and historical treasures.

Óbidos is about 45 minutes from Lisbon on the A8 motorway. The museums are inside the walls, a short walk from the Porta da Vila.
