About the Municipal Museum
Part of the Western Region Museums Route, the Óbidos Municipal Museum is also the head of the Óbidos Museums and Galleries Network. It opened on 15 June 1970.
Its collection stands out for 16th and 17th-century painting by André Reinoso and Josefa d’Óbidos. Reinoso was the first Portuguese Baroque painter, active between 1610 and 1641.

Besides painting, Josefa d’Óbidos worked in engraving, clay modelling, the design of costumes, fabrics and accessories, and floral arrangements. Her works can also be seen in the Church of Santa Maria, a few steps away.

Josefa de Óbidos
The 17th-century painter most closely linked to Óbidos, buried in the Church of São Pedro. The museum holds a fine group of her works.
André Reinoso
The first Portuguese Baroque painter, active between 1610 and 1641, with works in the museum’s painting collection.
Tile panels and the upper floor
The rooms of the old manor house on Praça de Santa Maria show the collection alongside tile panels.

Getting there
Óbidos is about 45 minutes from Lisbon on the A8 motorway. The museums are inside the walls, a short walk from the Porta da Vila.
Parking
Cars cannot enter the walled village freely. Use the car parks outside the walls and walk in.
